Harnett County Public Libraries will be closed Thursday, June 19 for the holiday. Outside book drops will be available for returns while the libraries are closed.

The Erwin Public Library will host IRS-certified VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) tax preparers on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., starting Wednesday, January 29, through Thursday, April 17.
This service is available by appointment only to those who qualify. Participants must obtain an appointment by calling The Division on Aging at 910-893-7578.

What to Bring
You must bring a valid photo ID. This can be:
A valid US Driver's License
A VISA
A US State ID
A Military ID
A Passport
Social Security Cards are required for:
The taxpayer
The taxpayer's spouse (if applicable)
Any dependents
If you don't have the Social Security Card, you can provide one of the following alternatives:
A letter from the Social Security Administration (SSA) that includes your name, address, and Social Security Number (SSN)
An SSA statement (SSA-1099)
A Social Security statement
Bring all relevant tax documents for the year 2024. This includes any documents related to:
Income
Expenses
Other 2024 tax-related information
All taxpayers must be present to file their taxes. However, there are exceptions for married couples who are filing jointly. In such cases:
The tax return can be prepared in the absence of one spouse.
The return will be held until the identity of both spouses is verified and both have provided the required signatures.
