Getting a Library Card

What are the requirements for obtaining a library card?
Photo identification verifying name is required.  Identification of current address is also required. Acceptable identification is defined as a valid driver's license, state identification card, military identification card, school identification card, plus proof of address if it is not included on the identification card.
How much does a library card cost?
Your first library card is free.  Replacement cards are $1.00.

Checking Out Materials

Do I need my library card to check out materials?
Yes, you must present your library card to check out library materials.
What are the circulation periods?
Books and audiobooks: 3 weeks
DVDs: 7 days (limit of 6 per library card)
 Magazines/Periodicals: 7 days
Kits: 7 days
Is there a limit to how many items I can check out?
With the exception of DVDs, there is no limit to the number of items you are allowed to checkout.
Will I be notified when I have overdue materials?
Yes.  Once an item becomes overdue, a letter will be mailed to you with the overdue item listed along with the overdue fee that has accrued.  Keep in mind that you will receive a receipt upon checking out library materials with the due date on it.
What are the overdue charge amounts?
.10 cents per day for books, audiobooks and periodicals.  .50 cents per day for DVDs. 

Using Library Services

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash payments for all amounts, and credit/debit card payments for transactions over $1.00.
Do I need my library card to access the public computers?
Yes.  You need your library card and PIN number to use the computers. Your library account must also be in good standing.
The library's public computers offer Internet browsing, Microsoft Office applications, headphone input for sound, and USB (flash drive) input.
Can I make copies?  How much are they?
Yes.  You will be charged .10 cents per black and white page and $1.00 per color page to print from the computer or when using the public photocopier. 
Can I send and receive a fax at the library?  What is the charge?
Yes.  The library has a public fax machine.  There is a .10 cent charge per page for local and toll free calls for both outgoing and incoming faxes.  The cost for long distance faxes are $1.00 per page.
Does the library offer free Wifi?
Yes.  The library provides free connection to public wifi for mobile devices. 
Are there any public meeting rooms available at the library?
Yes. The library has one large meeting room equipped with chairs, tables, speakers and HDMI-compatible projector. You can reserve the meeting room online.
We also have 2 small study rooms available on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Using the Library Online

Do you have new eBooks that I can download to my eReader?
Yes.  You can access them here.  You will need a Harnett County Library card number and PIN number to download them. By default, your PIN number is the last four digits of the phone number you provided when you registered for your library card. Can I manage my library account online?
